‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Gets Release Date, First Trailer; Netflix Expands Hawkins With Animated Spin Off

The world of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” is now growing into a different dimension as the makers have officially confirmed the release date of “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” with a brand new trailer. The animated show, which had already been announced, was much awaited, and fans have now finally been treated to the first footage from the same.

“Stranger Things” ending with Season 5 after making fans wait for a really long time was one of the biggest pop culture highlights of 2025. Fans were not exactly expecting an update on the future of the franchise this soon. Turns out, the makers have now dropped a major update confirming that the animated prequel spin off series will release on Netflix on April 23, 2026.

“Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” will be set between the events of Season 2 and Season 3 of the original series. The story takes place in the winter after the Hawkins gang has closed the gate to the Upside Down and is largely trying to return to normal life. But when they discover that some creatures from the parallel dimension were frozen and have now returned, they are pulled into yet another adventure to save their town.

The show will feature most of the recurring characters from the original series, but the actors who played them in live action will not be returning to voice their animated counterparts. The new voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, Brett Gipson as Hopper, Jeremy Jordan as Steve, Alysia Reiner as Karen Wheeler, and Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy Wheeler.

Voicing new characters are Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jack Griffo, and horror icon and “A Nightmare on Elm Street” star Robert Englund, who notably appeared in a guest role in the flagship show’s fourth season.

“Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” has Eric Robles serving as showrunner and executive producer, while Matt and Ross Duffer are attached as additional executive producers.
