Shahid Kapoor’s ‘O’Romeo’ Vs Shanaya Kapoor’s ‘Tu Yaa Main’ Box-Office Prediction: Which Will Take the Bigger Opening? Trade Experts Weigh In

On February 13 (tomorrow), two Bollywood movies - “O’Romeo” and “Tu Yaa Main” are arriving at the box office. While the makers of both films have piqued curiosity with their promotional assets, the buzz has been underwhelming.

Talking about “O’Romeo,” Shahid Kapoor needs a hit with Vishal Bhardwaj’s gangster-drama after the debacle of his last film, “Deva.” On the other hand, the packaging of Shanaya Kapoor’s survival thriller looks interesting but lacks face value.

Both films need to get a respectable opening day followed by a decent weekend total to make a mark at the box-office.

Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh, shares that despite the difference between the budgets of these two films being humongous, they cater to a similar target audience. “Both are different, diametrically opposite films. “O’Romeo” seems like a gangster, masala entertainer, love story, a complete package, while “Tu Ya Mein” is a survival-thriller. So, both stand out because of their respective genres. They should not be compared because “O’Romeo” is a big-budget film, while “Tu Yaa Main” is a mid-range film. So, it's not something that needs to be compared, but since they are releasing on the same Friday, they are looking at the same audience of the youth. So, that's where the comparison would come in, but the bigger release is “O’Romeo” definitely. This is the fourth film of Shahid Kapoor with Vishal Bharadwaj, and hopefully, they should click this time. Because the stakes are higher, the budgets are higher. And of course, the expectations are also higher,” explains Taran.

Sharing his opening-day predictions of both movies, Adarsh says, “I think that 'O’Romeo' should take a double-digit (opening). But let's see where it goes. Because a lot depends on Friday, and on the audience that comes in and decides whether to watch the film or skip it, based on public opinion or based on reviews. So, we'll have to wait and watch till tomorrow morning. But I think, ideally, looking at the face value and everything, it's very important that it takes a double-digit opening. On the other hand, “Tu Yaa Main” should take ₹1 to ₹1.50-crore opening, depending on word of mouth.”

Vishek Chauhan, Chief Executive Officer at Roopbani Cinema in Bihar, has minimal expectations from both these Hindi releases. “The simple reason is that even Vishal Bhardwaj has a very patchy record at the box office, and his films haven't worked like ever. So, the expectations are very minimal. If it does well, great, but the expectations are on the very conservative side from that film. And for “Tu Yaa Main,” I don’t have expectations even from that movie.” Talking about the first-day business of both films, he adds, O’Romeo might open to ₹5-7 crore because of Shahid’s name, and “Tu Yaa Main” can get ₹1-3 crore.

“O’Romeo,” which is based on the book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” by Hussain Zaidi, also features Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Vikrant Massey in key roles.

“Tu Yaa Main,” the Bejoy Nambiar directorial, also stars Adarsh Gourav, and is the adaptation of a Thai film titled “The Pool.”
