‘Saiyaara’ Breakout Shaan R Groverr Reveals Debut Lead Series ‘Jagdalpur’ Is Stuck in Limbo: ‘It’s Ready, It’s Big But There Is No Movement At All’ (EXCLUSIVE)
“Saiyaara” was easily one of the biggest films of 2025. Not only did it revive the Mohit Suri brand of cinema, it also turned Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda into household names. Another performer who grabbed the spotlight was Shaan R Groverr, who played the antagonist Mahesh in the film. While fans await his next project, not many know that the actor had already shot for a streaming series back in 2023 titled “Jagdalpur,” which is yet to find a platform for release.
In an exclusive chat with Variety India, Groverr spoke about the struggles he faced before gaining recognition with “Saiyaara.” The actor revealed, “I’ve been through everything. I’ve been on a set and I’ve been thrown out. I’ve finished a shoot and that film has not come out. I’ve done web shows that did not perform. In the last seven to eight years, I think I’ve literally seen everything. I’ve seen projects where I thought nothing would happen, and I’ve seen something like ‘Saiyaara,’ where I had no expectations. I only did it because I wanted to do a YRF film as my first Hindi film and see where it landed me.”

Shaan R Groverr then spoke about “Jagdalpur,” a show backed by Harman Baweja that he completed in 2023 but which remains unreleased. “Let me tell you honestly. It’s called ‘Jagdalpur.’ Yes, it’s a show by Harman which I shot in 2023. It was my first project as the lead, and it’s a supernatural love story. It’s a very good project. I’ve seen it myself — I’ve watched the first five episodes — and all I can say is, oh my God, the writing.”
"It’s ready, but nothing is happening with the show, so I had stopped talking about it. After a long time, I’m talking about it again. I just don’t know what destiny has in store for that show. If it comes out, all I can say is that it has a great screenplay, strong performances, and good music. Whenever it sees the light of day. But right now, nothing is happening. There is no movement at all,” he said.
Groverr also revealed how it is a show that finds its roots in Indian mythology and audiences will love it more than ever right now. He added, “I’ve made a mark as an antagonist. Now, as a protagonist, I think it would speak volumes. Also, with all the supernatural content that’s out there right now, the show is ready. It’s a very good project. It’s a supernatural love story that goes very deep into Indian Hindu mythology — something I think will resonate strongly with audiences today.”
He also confirmed that Red Chillies handled the show’s visual effects, underscoring its scale, yet the series still lacks a streaming home. “Red Chillies was handling the VFX. But ever since it’s been ready, I don’t know what’s happening with it. It’s been ready for a couple of years now. There’s Red Chillies involved, so the show is big — it’s not small — and it’s stuck. Maybe, I don’t know, and I don’t want to comment. Maybe the way it’s made, they don’t want to release it right now. Or maybe they plan to release it later. I don’t know.”
