Ranveer Singh Moves Karnataka High Court in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ ‘Daiva’ Mimicry Controversy

Ranveer Singh has approached the Karnataka High Court to dismiss the criminal case registered against him in Bengaluru was lodged by Prashanth Methal, a 46-year-old advocate based in Bengaluru for his alleged gestures depicting Daiva from Rishab Shetty starrer “Kantara: Chapter 1.”
The matter was mentioned today (February 23) before Justice M Nagaprasanna for urgent listing and the counsel's petition submitted said, “Ranveer’s sincere praise has been misread as a criminal act”.
The representatives of the "Dhurandhar" star maintained that the actor had no intentions of insulting anyone and he was merely admiring Rishab Shetty’s powerful performance.

While the defence has also pointed out that Singh has received two formal police notices, which have placed him under “undue stress” and sought for a same-day hearing to resolve the matter, the bench declined the request.
Justice M Nagaprasanna questioned whether the case should be prioritized just because the accused is a Bollywood celebrity and remarked whether a similar urgency would have shown if it were a Hollywood celebrity.
Choosing to follow its regular procedure, the next hearing for the matter is scheduled for Tuesday. The controversy of this matter erupted when Ranveer re-enacted a Daiva scene during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa from the climax of "Kantara: Chapter 1."
Although Shetty laughed at the event, Singh was slammed by netizens on social media for being insensitive towards the culture and traditional rituals.
On the professional front, Ranveer Singh will be next seen in “Dhurandhar: The Revenge.” The Aditya Dhar directorial, which is set to arrive during the festive weekend of Eid on March 19, also features R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun among others in key roles. It will lock horns with Yash starrer “Toxic’ at the ticket windows.
