Rakshitha Prem Defends Director Husband Prem’s Raunchy Lyrics in ‘KD The Devil’
Kannada director Prem’s period drama ‘KD: The Devil’ is yet to be released. But it has stirred up enough drama after the Hindi song, “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt was flagged on social media for its suggestive lyrics. Indian women, especially, have taken strong offence to the lines that are downright tacky and derogatory. His wife, Rakshitha Prem has strongly defended him much to the shock of many.
What is appalling is Rakshitha’s ire over what she calls, “selective outrage”, while calling out the abuse hurled against her husband, who has maintained a stoic silence so far.
She posted a series of stories on Instagram highlighting that many songs in the past like “Peelings,” “Dreamum Wakeupum” and “Choli Ke Peeche” have depicted suggestive lines and that her husband was being unfairly targeted.
And now, actress Nora Fatehi has jumped into the fray by posting a video, distancing herself from the entire controversy. She feigned ignorance about the Kannada song, confessing that she had agreed to do the item number because it was a big banner and she got an opportunity to work with Sanjay Dutt. She added that she was following the director’s instructions while shooting the song as she did not understand Kannada. She also mentioned that when she saw a screening of the Hindi version, she immediately alerted the director about a potential controversy arising and distanced herself instantly after that.
In a post on Instagram, she mentions, “I would hate for anyone to think that I endorse this. My team and I will be more careful in the future. I do want to reiterate that I had no idea about this Hindi song, and I did not perform to it.” Rakshitha is an actress herself. It is disappointing to see her openly endorse a misogynistic trend that should not have been encouraged in the first place.
The Hindi version of the song has been taken down from YouTube and a new one with changed lyrics will be uploaded soon, say sources.
