Punjabi Popstar Talwiinder Drops New Single ‘Blues’ For Soundtrack Of Riz Ahmed’s ‘Bait’

Following Jorja Smith and Jay Sean, Talwiinder has joined an all-star lineup of pop stars for an 'Inspired By' soundtrack for "Bait," a six-episode, genre-bending series headlining Riz Ahmed, that follows an out-of-work South Asian actor whose life changes as he lands the final audition to play the next James Bond. Played across four days, the show, airing on Prime Video India, explores ambition while seeking belonging in London.

While the official six-track soundtrack released late last month closer to the series premiere, the extended soundtrack album featuring music inspired by the show, will be out on April 16, alongside the official music video for the lead single by Jorja Smith, "Price Of It All."

Singing in Punjabi in the track and video dropped earlier today, Talwiinder voices ‘Blues’ with a lived-in feel. A singer, songwriter and producer, Talwiinder has almost 2 billion streams and 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

The soundtrack draws together a wide range of influences, reflecting the show’s hybrid cultural identity. It boasts a stellar cast of talent including rising DJ and producer Anish Kumar; Grammy winner, composer, singer and producer Arooj Aftab; Jungle and DnB legend MC Shabba D; iconic electronic music duo Original Unknown, BRIT and MOBO winning producer Amir Amor; vocal powerhouse Véyah; multi-platinum selling icon Jay Sean, and global star Jorja Smith.

In a previously shared note, Riz Ahmed shares “I don’t think an album like this has really been put together before, with such an incredible range of important artists from across the diaspora — from India, from Pakistan, from South Asia more broadly — as well as from the UK and the US.”

“Artists speaking Bengali, Punjabi, Hindi and English, working across grime, Bangla house, techno, experimental hip-hop, garage — it feels like a landmark cultural moment. As the global Desi music scene kicks up a gear and matures into a global force, I hope this album is something that helps consolidate and celebrate that,” he adds.

The upcoming 17-track album will feature music from global stars including artists such as Raf Saperra, KR$NA, The Twins, ENNY, Casisdead, AJ Tracey, Natasha Noorani, Talwiinder, Riz Ahmed and more.

‘Blues’ follows on from Jay Sean’s “Pulling Me Back” ft. Véyah and Jorja Smith’s ‘Price Of It All’ – also the theme song – which was released in March.
