Oscars 2026: Robert Downey Jr. reunites with Chris Evans ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, shows up in ‘Doom Green’
As the 2026 Oscars ceremony unfolded, the stage witnessed one of the biggest reunions of the night as Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans came together to present the awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay. But the reunion quickly turned into much more than a routine awards presentation.
The appearance marked a significant moment for Marvel fans. It comes seven years after Downey Jr. and Evans last appeared together in the MCU in "Avengers: Endgame" , and only months before they reunite on screen in "Avengers: Doomsday" , which is set to release on Dec. 18, 2026.

Interestingly, the moment also coincided with the 14th anniversary of their first film together, "The Avengers" . Both actors leaned into the nostalgia. Evans arrived in a crisp black suit, while Downey Jr. embraced his new Marvel chapter, sporting a bottle-green ensemble that nodded to Doctor Doom and his iconic hood, the character he will portray next in the MCU.
For Marvel fans, the reunion served as a playful tease of what is to come. The banter began with Evans joking that Downey Jr. had not gotten him a gift for their anniversary. After presenting the first award, the duo returned to the stage, with Evans walking in first before Downey Jr. followed holding up a shiny silver thong from "Magic Mike".
Downey Jr. joked that the item belonged to Channing Tatum — whom he humorously referred to as “Tanning Chatum.” Tatum, who was seated in the audience and is also set to appear in "Avengers: Doomsday" as Gambit, played along with the moment, quipping that he would “need that back,” sending the crowd into laughter.
Directed by the Russo Brothers, "Avengers: Doomsday" is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s biggest projects yet. The film marks Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU and is expected to feature one of the franchise’s most expansive ensemble casts to date.
