‘O’Romeo’ Beats ‘Udta Punjab’ And ‘Shaandaar’ to Emerge As Shahid Kapoor’s Third Biggest Opening Weekend Grosser

Shahid Kapoor’s latest outing “O’Romeo,” which released last Friday at the box-office hasn’t performed upto the mark considering its budget and scale. However, with the collection of ₹34.2 crore in its first three days, it has emerged as the third-biggest opening weekend grosser of Shahid Kapoor, beating “Udta Punjab” (₹33.80 crore) and “Shaandaar” (₹27.10 crore).

While “Padmaavat” remains Shahid Kapoor’s biggest first weekend grosser with ₹114 crore (4-day weekend), the second position is held by "Kabir Singh" with ₹70.83 crore.

However, the most interesting part is that, except for “O’Romeo,” every film mentioned has opened to double-digit numbers. With a budget of approximately ₹125-150 crore, the film has a lot of ground to cover to at least get a respectable total during its theatrical run.

While “Assi” featuring Taapsee Pannu and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur starrer “Do Deewane Seher Mein” is arriving next week, “O’Romeo” needs to sustain well in the limited screens, which it will get in the following week.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, known for helming movies like “Makdee,” “Maqbool,” “Omkara,” “The Blue Umbrella,” “Kaminey,” “7 Khoon Maaf,” “Matru Bijli Ka Mandola,” “Haider,” “Pataakha” and “Rangoon,” among others, “O’Romeo” is based on the book “Mafia Queens” of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the movie also stars Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Vikrant Massey in supporting roles.

The music of the film is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj while the lyrics are penned by Gulzar. While the editing of “O’Romeo” is done by Aarif Sheikh, the camera is cranked by Ben Bernhard.
