‘O’Romeo’ and ‘Tu Yaa Main’ Box Office: Shahid Kapoor And Shanaya Kapoor Releases Fail to Get Love During Valentine’s Day Weekend

Last weekend, which coincided with Valentine’s Day, saw two releases—“O’Romeo,” featuring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri and “Tu Yaa Main,” starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor.

Though totally different from each other, in terms of budgets and storyline, both films catered to youth in metro cities. However, neither of them managed to impress at the ticket windows during their first weekend.

As per a Variety India source, “O’Romeo,” the romantic action thriller, which was mounted on a large scale, raked in ₹34.2 crore ( ₹9, ₹14.2 and ₹11 crore on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively). On the other hand, the survival thriller, “Tu Yaa Main," which is devoid of star power, collected ₹2.60 crore in its first three days ( ₹0.50, ₹1.35 and ₹0.75 crore on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively).

The collections of both films got impacted yesterday due to the T20 India Vs Pakistan cricket  World Cup match. With the first weekend not going their way, the path for “O’Romeo” and “Tu Yaa Main” will be anything but easy in the weekdays.

With the arrival of Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama, “Assi,” and Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur starrer, “Do Deewane Seher Mein,” arriving this Friday, the holdover releases will face a solid screen crunch at the ticket windows.

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, “O’Romeo” marks the filmmaker’s fourth collaboration with Shahid Kapoor after “Kaminey,” “Haider” and “Rangoon.” It also features Avinash Tiwary, Nana Patekar, Farida Jalal, Vikrant Massey, Disha Patani and Tamannaah Bhatia in special appearances. The film is produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment VB Films.

On the other hand, “Tu Yaa Main,” also starring Kshitee Jog, Ansh Vikas Chopra, Parul Gulati and Amruta Khanvilkar in supporting roles, is directed by Bejoy Nambiar known for helming ‘Shaitan,” “Taish,” “David” and “Wazir,” among others. It is bankrolled by Colour Yellow Productions and Bhanushali Studios Ltd.
