According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is now officially in development at Sony Pictures Television and is backed by Adam McKay. It will follow Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier, first made headlines in 2008 when he was convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution. In 2019, he was charged federally for sex trafficking underage girls over a span of several years. However, before the trial could begin, Epstein died in prison. His death was later ruled a suicide. The recent revelations around the Epstein files have once again brought attention to the scale of his operations and his links to several powerful individuals.
While Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) leads the series and Adam McKay (“Succession”) is backing it, the show is being written by Sharon Hoffman (“Mrs. America,” “Pieces of Her”). Hoffman will also serve as co-showrunner alongside Eileen Myers (“The Night Agent”). Both will executive produce the project along with McKay. Sony is currently pitching the series to prospective buyers and is said to be confident that it will draw strong interest.
The official synopsis of the series reads: “An explosive account of an investigative reporter exposing the secret plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors. Drawing from Brown’s experience as a groundbreaking reporter for the Miami Herald, the book and the limited series follow her relentless years-long investigation that identified 80 victims, persuaded key survivors to go on the record, and led to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrests.”
There is currently no release window attached to the Jeffrey Epstein series.
