Jackie Chan and Lionel Richie Singing ‘We Are The World’ At China’s Spring Festival Gala Goes Viral

Music lovers had a meltdown seeing Lionel Richie and Jackie Chan together at China’s Spring Festival Gala held at Yiwu. While everyone was left amazed by the dancing robots, what is making waves on social media is the clip of the “Rush Hour” actor singing “We Are The World” with American singer, Lionel Richie. The latter is known the world over for his songs like the classic ballad, “Hello,” “All Night Long,” and others. He joined Chan via video much to the delight of the large crowd. 

Chan was dressed in a tunic suit, which is the traditional attire of Chinese men for this celebration. Given that red is the colour of the Chinese New Year, Lionel Richie too opted for a red jacket for his short performance. The timeless number, “We Are The World” was composed in 1985 by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson spent a week writing the lyrics of the song. It was written for the people of Ethiopia and humanity in general. 
 

Jackie Chan was surrounded by kids when he performed this number. China’s Spring Festival Gala is the world’s most-watched televised event. The highlight has been the humanoid robots that danced and did kung fu moves for the audience. The CCTV Spring Festival Gala left viewers speechless with the talent in the field of advanced robotics. Fans believe that this was indeed a legendary collaboration between Jackie Chan and Lionel Richie. Chan sang in Mandarin and his beautiful vocals proved how he was not only a master of action but also of singing. 

 

 


 

Jackie Chan is a prolific singer who has released more than 20 albums in languages like Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese and English. His most recent song is “A Century Of Protection” which was released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Palace Museum in Beijing. He performed against the backdrop of the Forbidden City.
