‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ Trailer Breaks Records, Becomes the Most Watched in HBO and HBO Max History
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” the new “Harry Potter” series, is due for release in Christmas 2026 but is already breaking records long before it lands on streaming. The first trailer, which was released earlier this week, has now become the most watched in the history of not just HBO Max but HBO as well.
The teaser has racked up 277 million organic views in just 48 hours across platforms as per Deadline, becoming the most watched trailer in the history of HBO and HBO Max and surpassing the previous record by more than double.

The series, headlined by Francesca Gardiner, will feature Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, who will together form the backbone of the story. The cast will also include names such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” will follow Harry Potter as he receives his letter to the wizarding school Hogwarts on his 11th birthday. As he sets off on this journey, he begins to understand the magical world around him while also finding himself drawn into a battle connected to a dangerous force from the past.
The series is being produced by HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and Brontë Film and TV. Francesca Gardiner, known for “Succession” and “Killing Eve,” will serve as writer and executive producer, while Mark Mylod is set to direct multiple episodes. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are also attached as executive producers.
