Ravi Basrur on Yash’s ‘Toxic’: ‘Everyone Has To Think Like A King For A Film Like This’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Come March 19, all eyes will be on the “Dhurandhar” vs. “Toxic” clash at the box office. Ravi Basrur, who has collaborated with Kannada actor Yash for the "K.G.F." series, is also scoring the background music for "Toxic." His work for their past movies got a lot of appreciation, with fans gushing over how well the BGM worked in all the mass elevation scenes of Rocky Bhai, Yash’s character from "KGF."  Basrur EXCLUSIVELY tells Variety India, “You have to love your hero. The work you do for a film should not feel like work. Of course, there is the story and the director’s vision, but you need to be absorbed in your leading man.”

Basrur tells us that he is not done with the music of “Toxic” as yet. Fans of instrumental music will be happy to know that he has recorded with a live orchestra for Yash's actioner. He tells us, “It is a visually heavy film and the music complements the scene. The director, Geetu Mohandas, knows best, as she has travelled with the movie for the last four years. We have used a lot of retro music but brought in the modern sound.” The music for “Toxic” has been in the making for a long time, with the director being actively involved in the same.

Basrur says he would love to work with top Bollywood stars as well but does not have high expectations. “It depends on who approaches me to do the music or BGM. Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan also look excellent in mass elevation scenes. I would love to compose for any of them. You need to watch the entire footage before you decide on this kind of music. Every department has to think like a king to create a film like 'Toxic,' a movie that stays with the audience,” he signs off.

"Toxic"s first song, "Tabaahi," will be out on March 2. The poster featuring Yash and Kiara Advani was released yesterday. The movie also stars Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Kiara Advani and Tara Sutaria. The movie has taken the multi-composer route with Ravi Basrur, Vishal Mishra and Tanishk Bagchi bringing together diverse musical styles. Mishra has composed four songs, while Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami have come together for one song. Ravi Basrur is handling the background music of the movie and is also composing one track for "Toxic."
