Ektaa Kapoor Producing Two Web Series For Netflix India; Shefali Shah to Lead One (EXCLUSIVE)
Ektaa Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms is teaming up with Netflix India for two web series, Variety India has exclusively learned.
The development comes nearly ten months after the production company and streaming giant announced a long-term creative partnership spanning multiple films and shows last year. These shows will mark their fresh association following successful previous collaboration on movies such as “Kathal”, “Pagglait”, “Jaane Jaan”, and “Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare”.
The first series is believed to be an ensemble-cast, large-scale period drama starring Shefali Shah in one of the leads. The show is titled “Koke” and will be directed by Nupur Asthana, best known for helming Prime Video India's “Four More Shots Please!” and Netflix India's Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekkar-starrer “The Royals”. Shooting begins on April 20 in Mumbai.

Details of the second web series are currently under wraps, but sources say it will be directed by Sahir Raza. The director has previously helmed shows such as “The Married Woman,” “Bade Acche Lagte Hain 2,” “Illegal-Justice, Out of Order” and “Doctors,” among others. Sahir was initially supposed to direct “Ragini 3” for Ektaa's banner, but exited the project following production delays, opting to prioritize this new venture instead. Casting is underway for this yet-untitled project, with production expected to commence in the coming few months.
These shows add to Netflix’s already robust upcoming slate. Balaji Motion Pictures' next release is Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan's horror-comedy, “Bhooth Bangla,” scheduled to hit cinemas on April 17. This will be followed by Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s “Vvan- Force of the Forrest” on August 28. The upcoming lineup also includes Sajid Ali's “Heer Ranjha,” Vishnuvardhan's “The Terror Report” and “Ragini 3”.
