Dhurandhar 2 Vs Toxic: Bloodbath Clash Almost Certain At The Box-Office
The epic box-office clash between Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 (Dhurandhar: The Revenge) and Yash starrer Toxic has been grabbing eyeballs among cinegoers and the trade industry. Repeatedly, both films have been emphasizing their release dates — March 19 (Eid Weekend) through their promotional assets, hinting at a solid battle at the ticket windows.
In the past, ugly clashes like Singham Again Vs Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Jab Tak Hai Jaan Vs Son Of Sardaar created a stir and showed how adamant some filmmakers can be.
While Dhurandhar 2 will definitely have an upper hand at the box office, especially in the Hindi markets after its prequel emerges as the biggest Bollywood grosser, Toxic cannot be underestimated either, as Yash is returning to the big screen after the mammoth success of KGF: Chapter 2.
However, both films will impact and eat into each other’s business as they arrive together in theaters.

Loss of ₹75-₹100 crore to both films
Since both films are mounted on big budgets, the clash will hamper their collections across the country. “Given the kind of euphoria, the kind of potential that both films have, as somebody in the value chain and as an exhibitor, I'm still hoping that one of the two chooses to move away from the date and come on a date where two films of this scale don't come in each other's way. Because, very honestly, coming on the same day, you're talking about a minimum loss, I mean loss in the revenue of ₹75 to ₹100 crore for each of the films, which is significant money and the entire value chain, the exhibition sector would like to optimise the release of both the films, which will not be possible if the two come together,” says exhibitor and director of Aashirwad Theatres Pvt Ltd, Akkshay Rathie.
He further shares that if one of the films shifts its dates, it would help them to get maximum footfalls and business at the ticket windows. “In the case of these two films, I think the merits are more than established, the euphoria is more than established. It's really not an ego thing where the one that moves will be considered to be inferior or weak. It will be labeled as pragmatism by literally everyone who matters, including the audience. And that's why I'm still hoping that one of the two chooses to move to another date to optimise and maximize the revenues for not just the producers and the creators of the film but for the entire value chain,” opines Rathie.
Veteran analyst Taran Adarsh echoes Rathie’s sentiments and remarks, “A clash is never a healthy sign. But you can't help it. Both are adamant about coming on those days.”
Division of screens
Ramesh Bala, a prominent industry tracker from Chennai, shared that the clash will divide the screens between the films, impacting the business. “It will affect both films because they will be sharing the screens now. So if only one movie releases, it may get 75 per cent of the screens, but if two movies are releasing, the screens may get split. It will eat into each other's business, depending on how they get the screens. But definitely, irrespective of the percentage of split between these two, a solo release for any movie would have given a bigger opening.
He also shared that since Dhurandhar has already become a roaring success in theaters and now on Netflix, the second part has the potential to work well in the southern part of the country.
₹100 crore opening for Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic?
Bala further shared that both films have the potential to get ₹100 crore opening if ‘they go full-screen’ on their first day at the ticket windows.
