Breakthrough in Rohit Shetty Shooting Case as Mumbai Crime Branch Arrests Alleged Shooter from Rajasthan; Number of arrests goes up to 11

By Sakshi Navare

In a significant development, the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested Rohit Shetty’s alleged shooter from Rajasthan. As per police officials, the shooter had opened fire outside the filmmaker’s Juhu residence.

As per IANS, the Crime Branch has also arrested six more people in connection with this case. Ritik Yadav from Bahabijoli in Agra district, Deepak from Sector 45, Sadarpur in Noida and Sunny and Sonu, both from Bahabijoli in Agra, are among those taken into police custody.

Another five people who were nabbed by the Mumbai Crime Branch in this case were charged under provisions of MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, 1999), and were produced before the special court on February 11.

While initially, the five accused were discharged from police custody after their arrest, the imposition of MCOCA on all of them required them to be present at the special MCOCA court.

The special court remanded them into police custody till February 17, though the Mumbai Crime Branch had sought a 15-day custody from the court. However, the court refused to grant the 15-day custody and directed that they remain in custody only till February 17.

To recall, the shooting incident took place on February 1, around 12: 45 a.m., when four to five rounds were fired at the building where filmmaker Rohit Shetty lives. While Shetty was at home, no injuries were reported. Post this incident, heavy security was deployed outside his residence.

Meanwhile, Shetty is busy with a film based on the life of police officer Rakesh Maria. John Abraham stepped into the titular role in this biopic.

After wrapping the shooting of this biographical action-thriller, Rohit will kickstart the shooting of his highly-anticipated comic-caper “Golmaal 5,’ where Akshay Kumar will join the ensemble of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu.
