After a disappointing week for “Prahaar” and “Nayyi Navelli,” this Friday has also started on an underwhelming note, with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s “Udta Teer” opening poorly. While the pre-Diwali period has affected business, the spy comedy was expected to fare better than it has so far.
If the film gains momentum during the evening and night shows, it could post opening-day collections on par with “Nayyi Navelli.” However, given the current scenario, that looks like a tough task. The spy-comedy genre has struggled to draw audiences in India, with two films in a similar space — Vir Das-starrer “Happy Patel” and Kunal Kemmu’s “Vibe” — failing to attract audiences earlier this year.
Meanwhile, “Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar,” a smaller film featuring a cast of newcomers, is expected to draw some footfalls thanks to its BOGO (Buy One Get One) ticket offer. While its trailer and music have clicked with the youth, it faces an uphill battle to establish itself at the box office.
“Udta Teer” marks the directorial debut of Akash A. Kaushik, who has written screenplays for films such as “Housefull 4,” “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” and “Bhooth Bangla,” among others.
The film also stars Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala and Sandeep Anand in supporting roles. It marks Mukul Dev’s second posthumous appearance following ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, after the actor’s death in 2025.
Meanwhile, director Anuj Saini’s “Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar” marks the debut of Sparsh Walia, Alisha Chopra, Kunal Vaid, Sakshi Vaidya, Tushar Chhibber and Sargun Kaur Luthra. The film is backed by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg Production under Luv Films.
