Barun Sobti, Jaideep Ahlawat and Abhishek Banerjee To Headline ‘Kohrra’ Creator Sudip Sharma’s Next (EXCLUSIVE)

By ,

The recently premiered second season of Netflix India's “Kohrra” has struck a strong chord with audiences, with several critics calling it superior to the first season. However, the show's creator and director, Sudip Sharma, has no time to revel in this praise as he has already turned his attention to his next project.

Variety India has exclusively learned that Sharma is reuniting with Netflix India for a new genre-bending series that will star Barun Sobti, Jaideep Ahlawat and Abhishek Banerjee in lead roles. Plot and other details are currently shrouded in secrecy, but sources describe the project as a complete departure from Sharma's previous work. Buzz is, the script is powerful enough to unite three of the most sought-after performers in India’s streaming space.

The casting marks a sort of reunion for Sharma, as he has already collaborated individually with each of them — Ahlawat and Banerjee featured in Amazon Prime Video's “Paatal Lok,” while Sobti has toplined two seasons of “Kohrra.” Shooting is already underway in Mumbai and is expected to be over by June 2026, eyeing an early 2026 premiere on Netflix.

Sudip Sharma is a critically acclaimed screenwriter, director and showrunner renowned for exploring deep-seated societal issues, class divides and regional subcultures in his gritty, realistic crime dramas and thrillers, such as “NH10,” “Udta Punjab,” “Sonchiriya,” “Paatal Lok” and “Kohrra.” His upcoming project as a writer includes Anurag Kashyap's Bobby Deol-starrer “Bandar,” which is awaiting its theatrical release following its premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year.

Recently seen in Sriram Raghavan's "Ikkis," Jaideep Ahlawat will next feature in Vipul Amrutlal Shah's "Hisaab," followed by Abhishek Pathak's "Drishyam 3" and Siddharth Anand's "King." Barun Sobti, meanwhile, has three web shows lined up ahead — Hardik Mehta's "Ikatthe," Konkona Sen Sharma's comedy series with Aditi Rao Hydari, and the much-awaited third season of "Asur".

As for Abhishek Banerjee, he will next be seen in "Mirzapur: The Film," "Baaghi Bechare," "Lust Stories 3," "Side Heroes" and Rahi Anil Barve's "Gulkanda Tales".
