Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bandar’ Starring Bobby Deol Gets A May 2026 Theatrical Release Date In India

By Sakshi Navare

While Anurag Kashyap celebrates the release of "Kennedy" on streaming today, he has another reason to celebrate as his next directorial, “Bandar,” has finally secured a release date. Starring Bobby Deol in the lead, the film after completing a successful festival run and winning accolades is set to hit the big screen in India on May 22, 2026.

Distributed by Z Studios, “Bandar,” written by Sudip Sharma ("Kohrra" and "Paatal Lok") and Abhishek Banerjee, had its world premiere in the Special Presentations programme at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival. It will now be released in India in May 2026. The Bobby Deol starrer will clash with Milap Zaveri’s “Tera Yaar Hoon Main,” starring Aman Indra Kumar, Akanksha Sharma, and Paresh Rawal.

Also starring Sanya Malhotra and Saba Azad, “Bandar” revolves around the aftermath of a #MeToo allegation in the world of digital media. It explores the life of a fading TV star on the verge of losing his reputation after his ex-girlfriend Gayatri accuses him of rape when he cuts her out of his life. The allegation leads to his arrest, forcing him to battle the legal system and the gatekeepers who want him behind bars.

Speaking to Variety, Kashyap revealed what led him to make the film: “The idea came from a true story, but we obviously had to navigate very thin lines. You don’t know who’s right, who’s wrong. There was rampant misuse of new laws, with cases of one woman filing eight different complaints in eight different police stations with the help of a lawyer and a policeman.”

Anurag Kashyap got the idea from an article that he read in a newspaper. Meanwhile Kashyap's "Kennedy" starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone has finally hit streaming in India after being in the limbo for over two years.
