A ‘Game of Thrones’ Movie Is In The Works At Warner Bros., With ‘House Of Cards’ Showrunner On Board

The world of "Game of Thrones" is set to shift formats and land on the big screen, as reports suggest that HBO and Warner Bros.’ film division are developing a movie spin-off of the hit show that ruled the charts for years. The news comes just weeks after fans witnessed the finale of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" .

The "Game of Thrones"  movie is being developed by Willimon, who has reportedly already submitted a draft, according to Page Six. The makers are yet to lock in a director and cast for the project.

There is no clarity on whether the "Game of Thrones"  film will eventually be made, especially since Warner Bros. is in the process of being acquired by Paramount Skydance. If the deal is finalized, there is a strong possibility that the new management could scrap films currently in development. However, given how important and fan-favorite the "Game of Thrones"  universe remains for the studio, the project could still move forward.

Additionally, Paramount CEO David Ellison has promised that once the two studios merge, they will release 30 films theatrically, meaning they will need a substantial slate to fill their calendar.

There are no plot details yet. The story is reportedly centered on Aegon I, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and will chronicle his conquest of Westeros, set a few centuries before the events of "Game of Thrones".

The Targaryens have already formed the backbone of two "Game of Thrones"  spin-offs, including House of the Dragon, which returns this summer, and "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" . Based on the bestselling fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, "Game of Thrones"  ran for eight seasons.
