Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ Leaked Online; Makers Move to Remove Links, Mull Legal Action

Fans of Vijay, already disappointed with the postponement of "Jana Nayagan's" release, now have another reason to feel dejected. A few scenes from the highly anticipated movie were leaked last night, leaving the industry shocked. Apparently, the first few minutes of the film started doing the rounds on social media ever since the leak occurred. Apart from the film fraternity, fans of actors from other movie industries, too, have condemned this and have expressed their solidarity with the makers of Jana Nayagan.

Director H Vinoth, who is disheartened over the incident, took to his Instagram page to express his discontent. He posted, "Every scene carries someone's dream. The leak before release is truly painful. Please support by not sharing it," even as fans keep guessing over the source of the leak. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see if Vijay will comment on the issue. The actor-turned-politician had recently alleged that both the political parties, DMK and BJP, were reasons for Jana Nayagan's delay during one of his political campaigns. The film, which is an adaptation of the Telugu movie "Bhagavanth Kesari," was initially supposed to hit the screens in January. However, the makers were denied permission from the CBFC.

Meanwhile, Vijayan Subramanian, the legal counsel for KVN Productions, which bankrolled the film, has issued a statement and has come down heavily on the culprits who are behind the conspiracy. A part of the statement said, "It has come to my client's notice with utmost shock and urgency that certain scenes from the film "Jana Nayagan" have been illegally accessed, downloaded, copied, and circulated by certain persons and forwarded to several third parties, creating a serious threat of digital leakage through various social media platforms." He has also warned that this amounts to a serious criminal offence and copyright violation, and that every person involved shall be individually liable for criminal action.

Producer Dhananjheyan, who also happens to be the treasurer of Tamil Film Active Producers Association, was the first from the industry to react to the issue. After criticizing the miscreants behind the leak, he informed that he spoke to the Regional Censor Officer and that the latter had agreed to lend all kinds of support. Dhananjheyan has asked the makers of "Jana Nayagan" to request the Information & Broadcasting Ministry to remove all links and act against those posting the videos on social media. He added, "The producer must act fast and initiate criminal action against everyone downloading the links or posting video."

There have been several instances of teasers and trailers of films getting leaked in the past. It's seldom that a film gets released online before its theatrical release. In 2018, a few clips of Rajinikanth's "Kaala" were leaked, leaving the makers and fans in panic. A person who live-streamed the film on social media for around 40 minutes was arrested, too.

As far as "Jana Nayagan" is concerned, there was unconfirmed news recently that the film is likely to be released anytime after the Tamil Nadu Assembly election (slated to happen on April 23) is over. Fans now have their fingers crossed as they feel the makers should plan for an immediate theatrical release as soon as the election is complete.
