M. M. Keeravani: “Work Has Begun on ‘Varanasi’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’’; Hindi Lyricists to be Locked a Year Later (EXCLUSIVE)
While not as prolific in the Hindi film industry as he used to be till the 2000s, composer M.M. Keeravani (also known as M.M. Kreem) has been quite active in other languages like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada across his 36-year-long career, with his “Naatu Naatu” for cousin S.S. Rajamouli’s “RRR” garnering global acclaim.
Speaking to Variety India about his upcoming projects, Keeravani reveals that he will also work on the music of a Bengali film, "Chorr," along with his already announced projects: S. S. Rajamouli’s “Varanasi” (starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas) and “Jai Hanuman” starring Rishab Shetty. He has completed work on the delayed Chiranjeevi starrer, “Vishwambhara” as well.

Keeravani has mentioned in an earlier interview that “Varanasi” will feature six songs. He will also create music for the Mythri Movie Makers film, “Jai Hanuman.” The composer tells Variety India exclusively, “Work is on for the Telugu songs in both films, with lyrics by Chaitanya Prasad.” When pressed to also name the Hindi lyricists for both films, he offers, “Our lyricists will be decided only a year or so later when work on the Hindi versions of our songs will begin."
About crafting the music for “Chorr,” the Bengali film directed by Agnidev Chatterjee, he shares, “Agnidev is an old friend, and he wanted to work with me! Work has begun on the songs and the lyrics are by Prasun. I find working in Bengali a delightful experience!”
