‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Episodes 2 and 3 Recap: Wilson Fisk’s Operation Red Hook Poses a Threat as Chaos Erupts Across the City
“Daredevil: Born Again” season 2 kicked off strongly last week, with episode 1 ending in a brutal showdown between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and the anti-vigilante task force. Bullseye’s return instantly became the biggest talking point, and the mystery around his actions still hangs over the story that even Matt is clearly trying to make sense of. Now, with episodes 2 and 3, the aftermath of that violent night begins to unfold. While Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is busy finding new ways to destroy Daredevil and anyone like him, Matt Murdock and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) are pulled deeper into the task force’s terror and Fisk’s much larger operation.
With episodes 2 and 3 now out, here are the five biggest highlights that reveal where the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is headed next.
Find Matt Murdock
Wilson Fisk is now willing to do whatever it takes to stop Daredevil, and that means turning the city itself into a weapon. After Matt takes the bullet meant for Fisk, the mayor releases a recorded public message announcing that Matt Murdock survived the assassination attempt and calling him a hero. He then asks New Yorkers to help find Matt. But it quickly becomes clear that this is a strategy disguised as concern. Fisk is cleverly using the city to flush Matt out. At the same time, chaos is also building inside the mayor’s office, where a mysterious online account begins leaking confidential internal information.
The Terror of the Task Force
As if Fisk’s political grip were not dangerous enough, the anti-vigilante task force is now completely out of hand. Their increasingly aggressive behavior is spreading fear across the city. They raid spaces, carry out violent operations and detain people, with little or no accountability. Citizens are beginning to push back, but the damage is already being done. One of those caught in the crossfire is Angela Del Toro’s aunt, who is taken in by the task force. Angela then turns to Kirsten McDuffie for help, fearing the system will do to her aunt what it has already done to so many others.
An Ally in the Anti-Vigilante Task Force?
Episode 3 opens with Matt and Karen interrogating a task force ranger they managed to abduct and bring to a basement hideout. Once they remove his hood, the officer introduces himself as Alan Saunders. He quickly claims that he wants to help Daredevil and insists that he knows Fisk is in the wrong. He then gives Matt and Karen information about one of Fisk’s most secretive operations: Red Hook. At first, Matt suspects a trap, but his instincts tell him Alan is being truthful. Matt eventually knocks him out and returns him to the task force with a cover story that Daredevil attacked him.
The Red Hook Secret
As Matt and Karen keep digging, a key document about Red Hook lands on Governor McCaffrey’s table, and suddenly, Fisk has a much bigger problem. She questions the port’s special “historic free port” status, which essentially allows goods to move with minimal oversight and enormous financial upside. While she has tolerated Fisk so far, McCaffrey makes it clear that her patience has limits. If Matt and Karen can expose what is really moving through Red Hook, it could finally be the thing that turns her against him.
Daredevil on the Rescue
After the trial, Matt gets a reluctant Kirsten to describe the secret task force facility where Duquesne is being held and uses her memory of its sounds and layout to break in as Daredevil. Inside, he finds dozens of prisoners locked in cages, including people who are not even vigilantes, and frees them as chaos erupts. Karen, waiting outside, is joined by Angela Del Toro, who brings intercepted radio chatter and helps coordinate the escape. As task force agents open fire, Duquesne drives the prisoners to safety, Angela slashes the agents’ tires, and Daredevil and Karen narrowly escape separately.
