‘Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘LIK: Love Insurance Kompany’ Close Day 1 Box Office Haul With Average Numbers
By Sakshi Navare,
It’s a busy week for South cinema, with multiple releases across industries arriving in theatres simultaneously. Leading the pack are the Telugu drama “Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha,” starring Adivi Sesh, and the Tamil romantic comedy “LIK: Love Insurance Kompany,” starring Pradeep Ranganathan. Both films, which released yesterday, managed to register a decent start at the box office, even if the numbers are not the star-driven openings the makers expected.
The anticipation and run-up for “Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha” were significantly longer, with the film building steady buzz over time. Early word-of-mouth combined with sustained promotions appears to have worked in its favour. The film, which also stars Mrunal Thakur opposite Adivi Sesh, earned ₹6.5 crore net in India on Day 1, according to Sacnilk. The gross total of the film stands at ₹7.57 crore, while overseas collections are at ₹6 crore, taking its worldwide gross to ₹13.57 crore.

“Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha” was simultaneously shot and released in Telugu and Hindi, and the language-wise breakdown reveals a clear divide in performance. While the Telugu version of the film earned ₹5.6 crore net, the Hindi version brought in only ₹90 lakh, indicating where the film has found its primary audience so far.
As for “LIK: Love Insurance Kompany,” the Vignesh Shivan directorial posted slightly higher numbers on the domestic front. The film earned ₹6.85 crore net in India, with its gross collection standing at ₹7.93 crore. However, the overseas performance has not contributed significantly; the film added ₹2 crore from international markets. This brings its total worldwide gross to ₹9.93 crore.
Despite the close Day 1 numbers between the two films, the road ahead remains competitive. The box office is currently still feeling the impact of “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” which continues to hold its ground in theatres even after its initial run. Adding to the pressure is the upcoming release of Akshay Kumar’s “Bhooth Bangla,” which arrives this Friday and is expected to take up a significant share of screens.
This puts both “Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha” and “LIK: Love Insurance Kompany” in a position where the weekend becomes crucial. Strong word-of-mouth and sustained occupancy will be key if either film hopes to build on its opening and hold steady in an increasingly crowded theatrical window.
