‘Bhooth Bangla’ to ‘Normal’: Everything Releasing in Theaters This Week

Theaters in India are currently witnessing a rather unusual box-office phase. While “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” despite slowing down now, continues to dominate the theatrical window, “Project Hail Mary” is still holding on with surprising strength. At the same time, titles like “The Drama” and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” despite generating considerable buzz globally, have failed to make any meaningful dent in the Indian market.

Now, as a new week begins, the spotlight shifts to one of the biggest releases of the year — “Bhooth Bangla,” led by Akshay Kumar. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film arrives as the clear headline release of the week. But beyond that, the upcoming slate also offers a fairly diverse mix of Indian and English-language titles, giving cinephiles a decent spread of options to plan their theatrical watchlist around.

Bhooth Bangla

Release Date: April 16, 2026
Language: Hindi

Directed by Priyadarshan, “Bhooth Bangla” stars Akshay Kumar, Tabu and Paresh Rawal in a spooky comedy set inside a mysterious haunted mansion. A reunion packed with chaos, jump scares and old-school comic timing, it is worth watching for its nostalgia factor and Priyadarshan’s proven flair for crowd-pleasing madness. The paid previews for the movie will begin from April 16, 9:00 PM onward.

Murabi

Release Date: April 14, 2026
Language: Odia

Directed by Arindam Sil, “Murabi” stars Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty in a Bengali drama that appears to revolve around family ties, emotional distance and unresolved pasts. For viewers who enjoy character-led storytelling over spectacle, this one could stand out for its emotional maturity and rooted, distinctly Bengali flavor.

Normal

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: English

A crime thriller with a deceptively simple title, “Normal” throws Bob Odenkirk into another pressure-cooker setup, this time under the direction of Ben Wheatley. Also featuring Lena Headey and Henry Winkler, the film looks like one to watch for its tense small-town mood, oddball edge and Odenkirk’s now-signature everyman intensity.

Madhuvidhu

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Malayalam

A Malayalam title with a more intimate and rooted flavor, “Madhuvidhu” looks positioned as a character-led watch for audiences who prefer emotional storytelling over scale. If the film delivers on mood and performances, it could easily become one of the quieter but more rewarding picks of the week.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: English

With Lee Cronin stepping into monster territory, “The Mummy” arrives carrying both franchise baggage and genre curiosity. That alone makes it a compelling watch. For horror fans, the draw here is obvious — seeing what Cronin does with one of cinema’s most recognizable supernatural properties.

Bindusahar

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Odia

“Bindusahar” adds regional flavor to this week’s release slate and could appeal to viewers looking beyond the bigger mainstream titles. The film appears to sit in a more grounded storytelling space, making it one to watch for its local texture, cultural specificity and potential emotional resonance.

Bad Boy Kartik

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Telugu

Directed by Ramesh Desina, “Bad Boy Kartik” stars Naga Shaurya, Samuthirakani, Vennela Kishore, Sai Kumar and Mime Gopi. With a title that already hints at swagger and conflict, this looks like a more mass-friendly Telugu outing and could appeal to viewers in the mood for a loud, commercial big-screen watch.

Kalagamanam Kalagamanam

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Telugu

“Kalagamanam” enters the week’s Telugu lineup as a film that appears to lean more toward drama than spectacle. While its wider promotional visibility has been relatively low so far, that could make it one of those quieter theatrical releases that surprises audiences if it lands emotionally.

Salbardi

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Marathi

A Marathi mystery thriller with a more atmospheric setup, “Salbardi” stars Pooja Sawant, Sonalee Kulkarni and Gashmeer Mahajani, and is directed by Ramesh Choudhary. Set around suspicious deaths in a village and a dark local mystery, this could be worth watching for its eerie tone and whodunit pull.

Mr. X

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Tamil

One of the more intriguing Tamil releases this week, “Mr. X” is directed by Manu Anand and stars Arya, Manju Warrier and R. Sarathkumar. With that lineup alone, the film enters the week with enough curiosity around it and could appeal to viewers looking for a more star-led regional watch.

Kendada Seragu

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Kannada

“Kendada Seragu” arrives as a Kannada release that appears to lean into a more rooted storytelling space rather than pure spectacle. That makes it one of those films that could quietly find an audience this week, especially for viewers who enjoy regional cinema with emotional weight and a more grounded narrative rhythm.

Therachaapa

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Telugu

Among this week’s Telugu titles, “Therachaapa” feels like the kind of smaller release that may rely more on word-of-mouth than opening-day noise. For audiences who like discovering something outside the louder commercial circuit, this could be one of the more under-the-radar picks on the slate.

Thimmarajupalli TV

Release Date: April 17, 2026
Language: Telugu

With a title that already carries a quirky local flavor, “Thimmarajupalli TV” sounds like it may be aiming for a more offbeat or culturally rooted space. In a week packed with louder titles, this one could stand out if it delivers on personality, humor, or a distinctly regional storytelling voice.
